In the beginning there were ideas. Those ideas lead to exchanges on Messenger. Then emails. Internet searches were done and a spreadsheet was born. In condensed time this is how all this began.
A seed planted in the minds of two friends which became an almost instant calling. My love of photography coupled with Maggie's love of the outdoors made a great match for this project. I say project but it really isn't. We just want to share the places that we have found interesting and hope that you will too. I like going to out of the way, off the tourist track places where you pretty much have the whole place to yourself. You can accomplish this even in the more popular venues but it is all down to timing. The earlier the better. Also, it pays to find out where the locals like to spend their time. They know all the really good places.
I had lived in the UK for 14 years straight and this was the first time I had actually taken a weeks holiday to do what I love to do. Go walkabout with my camera.
Even though the whole 'expedition' was planned from day break to sunset (and beyond!) the pace was not overwhelming and we managed to spend enough time in each place to get to know it.
Now if you don't like walking than this blog will not really be of much use to you. All the places that we will talk about will require a bit of walking, although I am not talking about a 50 mile hike with a full pack. These are walks that folks like myself, in reasonable good health and willing to take a 'good stretch of the legs' constitutional, will be happy to make in order to be rewarded by spectacular views and intriguing points of interest that will make you think about who you are and what the people who stood here before you were like.
Thoughts:
Travel is one of the best ways to learn about yourself and about others who share the world with you. I am sure many of you have heard this from parents, friends, relatives, teachers. But it really is. The more you travel and open your mind to things that are different from what you are used to, the better and happier a person you will become.
I hope to help you on your journey to finding wonderful out of the way places.
With the help of my many and very patient friends, we will examine, explore and ignite a passion for finding those FORGOTTEN PATHWAYS.
We will share the beauty of the places we visit through photographs, personal thoughts and music. Every place has a secret which we will try to uncover through these mediums. If possible we will interview the musicians, poets and writers who have found inspiration in the landscapes that surrounds them.
Come along with us as we walk the paths others created, sometimes with success and sometimes with a great deal of humour. This is not serious work. This is pleasure time.
Stopping to take the time to breath in the air. Really absorb the landscapes. And return yourself to a time of wonderment about the those who created these amazing places, walked along the same rocky paths and left their mark for us to enjoy.
Hey this is neat! I like it!
